Syme Rain Garden



In summer of 2010, 18 students in the North Carolina State University (NCSU) Landscape Architecture (LAR) Department undertook a pilot summer design-build studio focusing on low-impact development and stormwater management on the NCSU campus.  The project, installed adjacent to the Syme Residence Hall on the historic North Campus, emphasized recycled materials, state-of-the-art stormwater management planting materials and represented a cooperative endeavor between the LAR Department, the NCSU Housing Department and numerous members of the local building and construction community.

The studio, taught by Assistant Professor Andrew Fox, RLA, ASLA, was divided into two five week sections.  The first section focused on design development, design concepts and the preparation of construction documents, while the second section was dedicated to construction.
